Corridos were born in Mexico in the early 19th century to recount the exploits of revolutionaries and independence leaders. But over time, they have evolved and sung the lives of other types of heroes, and even some anti-heroes.

Narcocorridos are, to this day, the most popular corridos around the world. Nowadays, corridos are not only about drug lords, but also about working for a better life, achieving goals, succeeding and providing for your family in the best way possible. In general, they glorify wealth and celebrate the legend, their own or others.

For all this, Spotify launched Corridos Perrones, a binational playlist, from the United States and Mexico, which is already being listened to all over the planet. With its 1.8 million followers, it is one of the strongest Latin music playlists on the platform.

The Challenge

The challenge of this project was to give a musical style with more than two hundred years of tradition a modern image. In addition, it was important to respect the contrast and diversity of styles that the genre is currently experiencing, ranging from ranchero looks with horses and SUVs, to a style closer to trap, with its motorcycles and urban luxuries.

The Solution

In the corrido world, everything is brighter, bigger and more expensive. For this reason, we use as a main element of the graphics the ornaments with symbols and details of Mexican culture, which are usually seen in the buckles of their belts and in the silver and gold engravings of their guns.

But corridos is not only related to the power of the ranch, but also to the luxuries of the city. For this reason, we have kept a traditional aspect, without forgetting to represent also the younger and newcomers to the genre. Following this logic, the lock up and the monogram are engraved in gold and contrast with the colored fire in the background, with which we represent the passion and lyricism of the corridos, giving the design the exact dose of epic drama and modernity needed.
